Located in the Pacific Northwest, Lewiston, Idaho and Clarkston, Washington have
very mild climates due to their low elevations above sea level. Spring comes early to the LC Valley, summer is long and warm, autumn
is a delightful time of year, and winter normally brings little
snowfall. Total precipitation during the year averages only 13
inches.
The confluence of the Snake and Clearwater Rivers marks the boundary between
Washington and Idaho, and these rivers offer outstanding recreation,
including some of the best steelhead and salmon fishing in the U.S..
The Snake River also leads from the L-C Valley into the depths of
Hells Canyon, one of the deepest gorge in North America. Exciting jet boat trips into Hells
Canyon are offered by several outfitters in the Lewiston-Clarkston area.
Hells Canyon is also home to the nation's largest population of bighorn sheep.

World Class elk hunting is also close at hand, in the heavily timbered mountains of Idaho's Clearwater National Forest.
The Lewis-Clark Valley, together with the surrounding mountains and prairies, are the traditional home of the Nez Perce people.
Petroglyphs, such as those shown here at Buffalo Eddy, are a reminder that ancient people hunted the hills and fished the waters of the Lewis-Clark Valley.

The headquarters of the Nez Perce National Historical Park is located at Spalding, Idaho, just one half hour from Lewiston. The park itself contains 38 sites, mostly in Idaho, encompassing the valleys, prairies, mountains and plateaus of the inland northwest that have been home to the Nez Perce people for thousands of years.
